This class focuses on releasing the psoas and relieving tension in the lower back through gentle movement.
The psoas is a deep muscle that connects the spine to the legs. It plays an important role in stabilizing the spine, supporting the pelvis, and helping us move through space. When the psoas becomes tight or overworked, it can pull on the lumbar spine and pelvis, often contributing to tension or discomfort in the lower back and hips.
Stress, long periods of sitting, and compensatory movement patterns can all cause the psoas to become chronically engaged. Emotional stress can also trigger this muscle to tighten, as it is closely connected to our protective and survival responses in the body. Over time, the psoas may begin overworking to compensate for weakness or imbalance elsewhere, creating additional tension patterns.
In this class, we work lying on the floor using small somatic movements of the pelvis and spine to help release this tension.
Through layered pelvic rocking movements, you will begin to explore how the pelvis and spine move together while gradually unwinding holding patterns in the lower back and hips. These subtle movements help restore awareness of deeper support in the body rather than relying on large external muscles.
This practice encourages you to move from deep within the body with less effort and more awareness.
